The Story of BRIGHTSEEDS

Welcome to our company---BRIGHTSEEDS, a seed company devoted to vegetable and flower seed production. Founded in 2000, BRIGHTSEEDS has gained a lot of practical experience. Relying on science, technological equipment and genetic material protection, our company has largely expanded the production scale.

Prodution region

Our company is located in Jiuquan, Gunsu, China.

Gunsu is in Northwest China, between 38°-40°north latitude and 98°-101°east longitude.

Jiuquan is located in the center of Hexi Corridor (Hexi means the west side of the Yellow River) and surrounded by the Gobi desert. It is a famous city with a history of more than a thousand years.

Climate

In our area, the average yearly sunlight time reaching 3, 054.6 hours is favorable for the growth of crops.

Temperature

The absolute highest yearly temperature is 32 degrees Celsius and the absolute lowest yearly temperature is minus 31.6 degrees Celsius, with the average yearly temperature being 7.9 degrees Celsius. And the frostless days are 129-158 days. Winter is usually severe and long, but summer is moderate without big temperature fluctuation.

QiLian Mountain

Near the Qilian Mountain Range, at about 1,500 meters above sea level, are the several beautiful oases where we produce vegetable and flower seeds for our customers.

Climate 1

Here, winter starts in October and ends in late March, which makes a very short growing season. On the other hand, the long severe winter weather eliminates to a large extent, the possibility of many insects, germs, spores of bacteria living in the open field. Therefore, in the coming growing season, the pressure of diseases and pests will be much less.

Before receiving an order, farmers sign an agreement with us which states the quality standard of the seeds. 

Mostly, farmers’ livelihood depends on the crops they grow. A high yield means a high income. Payment is decided by both quantity and quality. The plots which, to a great extent, determine the yearly income of the farmers are pretty small, that is, about 2,000 to 3,350 square meters per person. And they are usually made up of several portions in different locations. Therefore, the quality control is easily managed. Moreover, this management model of small plots facilitates customers’ different demands regarding varieties and lines. And we accept small orders in your favor, which is also one of our advantages. 

Thirty years ago, experts from Ministry of Agriculture taught Chinese farmers the crop pollination technology. For a very long time, our area has been a famous professional hybrid production region in China.

The farmers here have accumulated a lot of technology concerning every step of seed production. And they are conscious of the seed quality, which, they know, to a great extent, decides their income. Therefore, the crops are taken good care of by the whole family of farmers.

Laboratory

Before delivery, the sample seed of every lot will be tested for germination in the lab and the results will be written into the production report sent along to customers.

Production Process

Technicians of our company are required to have graduated from agricultural colleges or technical secondary schools for agriculture.

Technicians are required to track the whole seed production process carried out by farmers and collect the information of every farmer and every plot during the production season, including the sowing time, the seedling number, the transplanting time, the off-type percentage etc.

Every step of the seed production is in the charge of a supervisor, who ensures that everything is under control and also oversees technicians’ work. 

Before pollination, technicians are required to be in the field in person, to check on the male line, find out the off-types, uproot them and report to the supervisor. When everything is right and it is pollination time, farmers can start to pollinate. Then technicians are required to determine the time for pollination removal.

Pollination workers are required to have been trained by our technicians. The training includes the optimum time of emasculation and pollination, steps of emasculation, the right way to mark after pollination and other points for attention etc.

Before harvest, farmers are required to check on the fruits, pick off the ones from self-pollination, and find out the off-types once again.

The production progress of every lot is required to be reported and recorded in a file in a frequent and elaborate way. The reports are kept open to our customers.

Rainfall and irrigation

The annual rainfall is 84 mm, with the greatest rainfall ever recorded reaching 158 mm. The rainy season starts in July and ends in October. The average annual rainy days are 62. And the average annual evaporation is 2,141.4 mm.

The low rainfall and high evaporation make this area pretty dry. But with a perfect irrigation system, during the growing season, the required water supply is ensured. In early spring when the ice on Qilian Mountain hasn’t melted and flown down as water, we turn to the traditional technique, that is, to utilize the water retaining capacity of the soil. As of late spring, all pumping stations and irrigation canals spreading all over the villages everywhere as a net, provide the required water for the crops.
